Momma needs a caretaker or foster!
Won't you consider helping her get a new start?
2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs. Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families. We have many sponsorship dogs. Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :) So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue. Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding. Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!

UPDATE3/14/15 - Momma lost her previous foster home and spent some time in boarding. She has been with me for about a month now and all I can say is that she is just an absolute sweetheart. She is 10 little pounds of the softest fur I’ve ever felt. Pick her up and you will instantly fall in love with her! It’s like having all the perks of a new puppy without the puppy chaos since she is housebroken, follows commands, walks great on a leash, doesn’t chew…she even puts herself to bed when she gets tired. That said, she is a Chihuahua which means that she is a great alarm system. She takes a few minutes to warm up to strangers but settles down quickly. She will do best in a home without kids (or older, calmer kids that understand she is a bit delicate). Momma does fine with other dogs after a warming up period. She does not boss them around but she also won’t allow them to boss her. She has no problem telling my 70lb pit bull to back off. In summary, Momma is truly a little angel who deserves a family who will give her the life she deserves.
Summary from Momma’s first foster home… Momma is such a neat little girl. She is as sweet as pie and just loves snuggling up next to you and getting her belly rubbed. She doesn't take long to warm up to the household dogs and also did amazingly well with a fellow foster mom's pack of dogs when I went on vacation. She will growl at first meeting but then settles in and wants to play. She will chase the cats, but doesn't ever try to hurt them and will stop when you tell her thats enough. I do not recommend Momma to go to a household with small or young children. She likes respectful people and wouldn't do well with a little one in her face. She will also need a fenced in yard or someone who is willing to keep her on a leash at all times, as she will chase kids on bikes and other animals. She is 99.9% housetrained and can go long hours without an accident in her crate. I take her out every couple of hours when I'm home to avoid any accidents. She sure would be an amazing addition to anyone's life and has so much personality and cuteness to share! We are still working on the barking at other dogs and kids when we are out on our walks. She has improved tremendously and I am so proud of her for that... specially seeing as she is a Chihuahua after all :)
More about Momma
Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Requires a yard
Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.
A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!
