2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)
When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application.
The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)
Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!

UPDATE - i accidently ran into something and poked my eye :(   It had to be removed so now I'm a winker but thats OK I'm still doing great and I'm still sweet!!!

Hello I am a sweet dude.  I came to the shelter when my human mommy had to move in with her daughter and her daughter wouldn't allow me to come along :(   It made me and my mommy sad and the shelter was really noisy and not at all like my home.
Luckily the nice lady at the shelter called 2nd Chance and then she took me to her home and then she put me in a car and I came to PA!
I like the ranch and I have lots of friends here :)
They found I have Lymes disease but they are treating it and I feel much much better :).

UPDATE FROM FOSTERS:

Brutus, 12.5 years old, pug, fawn

Hi I'm Brutus!

I'm lookin' to find my furever home, but until then I'm hangin' with my foster family not far from The Ranch. I'm almost a teenager, but don't worry, that does not stop me from explorin' my surroundin's and followin' my foster humans everywhere they go. I follow them so much they call me a “velcro pug”. I don't mind bein' without my foster humans, but when they get back I make sure to give them the beans for not takin' me with them. HOW DARE THEY?! I am neutered and house trained, but I did have a couple accidents the first couple days at my foster home and I tend to leak a little when I'm sleeping so my foster humans put belly bands on me at bed time. I don't like it, but I deal with it. I love meetin' new people and goin' outside to explore. Sometimes, I need to go in a crate or playpen while my foster humans are not home, and while I don't mind go into them, I make sure to give them what for when they let me out. HOW DARE THEY?! I do have some issues my potential furever family needs to know about. First, I tested positive for Lymes Disease. Second, I'm starting to develop some joint issues in my back legs, so I do better on carpet than I do on solid wood or tile type floors. It's a slow go when I'm going up and down stairs, but don't pick me up, I DO MYSELF!!!! I don't let nuffin stop me from gett'n where I need to go. Third, my foster humans say I might have selective hearin' or maybe I don't hear at all, but I'm not tellin'. Forth, I'm a winker because I had an accident shortly after I got to the Ranch, but I don't let that bother me. However, if you wanna give me a treat, you gotta show it to me on my eye side or Imma nibble your fingers too. Lastly, I LOVE TO TALK!!! I like lettin' people know what I'm thinkin' when I get excited or when I'm wantin' some munchin' stuff. If you think you got what it takes to handle me, put an application in with 2nd Chance 4 Life, The Rescue Ranch and tell them you want Brutus the Pirate Pug!

Foster Humans' notes:

Brutus is an awesome little guy, with a heart of gold. His nicknames are Winker, Winkey, Bru-Bru and/or Bru-Bear. He picked us as his foster humans while we were visiting The Ranch when we first became fosters, so he was our first. He was very chill at The Ranch, but that quickly went out the window once he came home. He is a very vocal boy when food is present, whether it's his food or ours doesn't matter, he wants some and he wants you to know he wants some. The lost eye, joint issues and hearing problems don't seem to bother him much. He wants to do steps himself and tries to get away if you try to pick him up. His perfect furever home would have limited steps and a mostly carpeted interior. Also, a fenced in yard is a must for him because he loves to wander freely and explore. He is super friendly with people and other dogs, but he does bump into things due to his missing eye, which sometimes upsets other dogs. He is house trained but does have some issues going in the house and does sometimes pee in his sleep so we have plenty of belly bands on hand. He does not fight crating but is not a big fan of it and has no issues what so ever with grooming that we can tell. He does well on a leash, but prefers to run free. He doesn't seem to have much interest in toys, just snuggles, naps and food. He does not do very well in the car.  Needs monitored or better yet held in the car.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats

Please fill out an adoption application:

Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.

A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!
