My name is Leo. My foster humans recently brought me to their house from Maryland, though I'm originally from West Virginia. I traveled here with my buddy Ralph. I'm looking for a furever home with lots of toys to play with and a yard for running in. I don't mind other dogs and female humans, but kids and male humans scare me a little. Eventually, I will warm up to them like I did my foster dad, but it needs to be on my schedule. I'm not fond of sudden movements or sudden loud noises,either. I love to play tag with the resident jug Badger. We go outside in the yard and run together and chase the birds. I also like to lay on the back of the couches with him, especially on the couch by the window so we can serve as the neighborhood watch. I get super silly after bath time and I zoom all over the house, because air drying is the BEST!! I am crate trained and house trained with ZERO accidents in my new foster home. I prefer soft foods, though my foster humans are slowing getting me to eat hard kibble, but I won't eat hard treats. I love dried sweet potatoes, though, and Dentasticks. I also like to play “get the fingers” with my foster dad, but I make sure not to bite him too hard so he knows I'm playing. I would love a furever home with a friend close to my age to play with. Foster Humans' notes:
Leo is a total ham. He loves to play and take naps. We haven't really given him a nickname because he listens so well and his name is already so short. It is obvious, however, that he was abused in his former home situation, likely by a man and possibly child/children as well. It took him nearly 2 days to approach me (foster dad) without looking as if he was about to get beat. Once Leo is comfortable, he is an awesome little dude. He is very playful and will play mostly with squeaky toys and any ball available. He also will play “get the fingers” with me as he said. He doesn't have to be right next to you at all times, but will let you know when he wants attention. Not 100% sure how he will handle children, but he gives nervous barks when the neighbor kids are at the fence petting the other dogs. He has absolutely no issues that we can see with other dogs. He responds well to simple commands and his name, however, speaking with a raised voice will send him scattering away, likely fearing a beating. He is a total sweetheart once he gets comfortable and trusts that he is in good hands. He really enjoys walks and does very well on a leash. Leo also loves to run so a fence would be best for him, especially in a high traffic area. Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not. A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs.
