Join Our Pack! On a daily basis, we have new foster dogs and cats coming into the system that need medical care, such as insulin, heart meds, allergy meds etc. Won't you be part of the pack and help with a monthly donation?
2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs. Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families. We have many sponsorship dogs. Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :) When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :) So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue. Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding. Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :) Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!

Meet Mr. King. He was rescued from a puppmill on Martin Luther King day and so earned that name. With all he has been through he deserves to be treated like a King for the rest of his life.
This lovely fellow was kept in a wire bottom cage in an outdoor hutch for 9 years of his life and used to help make puppies. As beautiful as you can see he was meant to be, they must have made a lot a of money over the years selling his purebred puppies. People need to adopt – don’t shop. This is what the parents lives may be for those cute puppies in the window. King was filthy and in poor condition upon surrender to rescue. His teeth were in such bad condition he had to have 26 pulled. The owner said they were “retiring” him from breeding b/c of age…
He arrived at his foster home terrified. Never having seen the inside of a house, interacted much with humans or been asked if he wanted to do anything, he just flattened and shook for days whenever anyone came near him. He paces in circles when he becomes too uncertain about what to do. He can only make squeeky whispery noises so he may have been cruelly “debarked”. Many of these "scared" behaviors have greatly diminished and he is learning to be a dog, chewing on toys and even comes up to be petted now. He has shown no territorial or food aggression.
King gets along wth other dogs and seems like he will be a great companion once he figures out how to be a dog and learns not all humans are bad. Because of his past, a fenced yard would be ideal so he can run and explore his own little peice of the world. He does not know what to do on a leash yet. He loves to sit on your lap and follow you around the house. He does not mind visitors or kids as long as they respect his space and give him time to adjust.
Poodles live to be 12-15 years old with good care so he has many years left to be pampered.
Fill out an application if you would like to give King the royal treatment for the rest of his life!
Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.
A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!
